Installing Google Analytics 4 (GA4) On a WordPress Site

Integrating Google Analytics 4 (GA4) into your WordPress site is crucial for gaining deeper insights into your audience and site performance. Here's a straightforward guide on installing GA4 using Google's Site Kit plugin:

Step 1: Create Your GA4 Property

  • Sign in to Google Analytics: Head to analytics.google.com and sign in with your Google account.

  • Create a GA4 Property: Click "Admin," select "Create Property," enter your website details, and follow the prompts to set up your GA4 property.

  • Set Up a Web Data Stream: Choose "Web" and enter your site's URL and stream name. Once created, you'll receive your Measurement ID (G-XXXXXXXXXX).

Step 2: Install and Set Up Google Site Kit

  • Install the Plugin: In your WordPress dashboard, navigate to "Plugins" > "Add New," search for "Site Kit by Google," install, and activate it.

  • Set Up Site Kit: Once activated, click on "Site Kit" in your dashboard, then select "Start Setup." Follow the prompts to authenticate your Google account and grant necessary permissions.

Step 3: Connect Google Analytics to Site Kit

  • Link GA4 Property: After authentication, go to "Site Kit" > "Settings," click "Connect More Services," and select "Analytics."

  • Choose Your GA4 Property: Site Kit will display available properties. Select the GA4 property you just created, confirm your selection, and click "Configure Analytics."

Step 4: Verify Your Installation

  • Real-time Test: Open your website in a new tab, then head back to your Google Analytics account. Navigate to "Reports" > "Realtime" to confirm that GA4 is tracking your active users.
